Funeral Service For Mrs. Wishard Is Held Sunday.
Burial Takes Place at Mount Hope Cemetery Following Services at Shaw-Messer Chapel.
Scores of relatives, friends and neighbors gathered at the Shaw-Messer chapel here Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock to pay their final respects to Mrs. Virgil Wishard who died at her home, 902 Second street, N.E., late Thursday evening.
Death resulted from a complication of disorders and followed an illness with which Mrs. Wishard had been struggling for several months.
Burial at Mount Hope.
Burial was made at Mount Hope cemetery, while Rev. Roy Long, pastor of the Evangelical church of Watertown preached the funeral sermon at the chapel and had charge of the committal services at the grave.
Two hymns constituted the musical offerings at the service. Howard Gross sang, “Nearer My God to Thee,” and “Rock of Ages,” accompanied at the piano by Miss Bertha Taecker.
Pallbearers included: W.T. Williams, John Low, Charles Frank, John Linstrom, George Williams and O.G. Johnson.
Relatives from out-of-the-city who were here to attend the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wishard of Bison, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Wishard and family of Glencross, South Dakota.
Born in Indiana.
Minnie Wishard was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips. She was born Dec. 15, 1875 at Oden, Indiana. At her death on August 22 she had attained the age of 59 years, 8 months and 7 days.
When three years of age her mother died, and she later went to make her home with an Aunt, Mrs. John Hoschild at Arcola, Illinois. She continued to live at Arcola until her marriage on February 28, 1894 to Virgil Wishard. They came to South Dakota immediately following their marriage and took up a homestead 10 miles northwest of Watertown, remaining there until the fall of 1925 when Mr. and Mrs. Wishard moved to Watertown. They had resided at their family home on Second street, northeast until the present time.
Mrs. Wishard is survived by her husband; two daughters and seven sons: Mrs. A.W. Wellington of Chinook, Montana; Mrs. Paul Uthe of Watertown; Birdeen of Los Angeles, California; Glen of Bison, S.D.; Charles of Prairie City, Oregon; Delbert of Glencross, S.D.; and John, Earl and Joe of Watertown; 10 grandchildren and one sister and one brother, Mrs. Charles Herron of Oden, Indiana and C.M. Phillips of Worthington, Indiana also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
