VICTORIA - James H. "Bubba" DeAtley, best known for his dry wit and sense of humor passed away Friday, November 2, 2012, at the age of 77, after a very courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 27, 1934, in LaWard to the late James H. and Mariah Phillips DeAtley. Bubba graduated from Industrial High School and was a proud member of the 1951 Fighting Cobra football team that played in the state semifinals. He served in the United States Army, coached little league and was member of the Jaycees.

Bubba is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol; two sons, James "Trey" DeAtley III and wife, Ale, of Cedar Park, and J. Dean DeAtley and wife, Tiffany, of Lake Jackson; 3 grandchildren, Tessa Katherine, Emma Caroline and Jackson Dean DeAtley; sisters, Jimmie Woodward Fiedler of Victoria and Carolyn Behrendt and husband, Vernon of San Antonio; brother, Donald DeAtley of Victoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joy Zieschang.
Bubba retired in January 1993 after working for Mobil for 8 years and Dupont for 32 years. After retirement he enjoyed fixing houses with a good friend and skilled craftsman, Bennie Hyak. He also loved yard work, traveling and completed his life long dream of traveling to all seven continents, but most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 4, 2012, from ??-?? at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday, November 5, 2012, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Rev. John Waak officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 pm at the ODHS Cemetery in El Campo.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Mozisek, Don Nobles, Leo Hermes, Bennie Hajek, Broadus Ramsey, Corky Fitzpatrick, Gordon Henderson, Donald DeAtley, Harvey Kallus and Brad Woodward

Memorials may be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 4102 N. Ben Jordan, Victoria, Texas, 77901.
Rosewood Funeral Home, Victoria, Texas.
