A DEATH-BED MARRIAGE.
The Bridegroom was a brother of Jay Phillips and a former Minnesotan.
Hurlburt L. Phillips, president of the Jamestown Lounge Company, of Jamestown, N.Y., who was married on his dying bed to Mrs. Mary B. Lamberton, of Franklin, Pa., at the Hotel Victoria, New York, May 7, was a brother of court officer, J.W. Phillips, of this city. Mr. Phillips was stricken with pneumonia when he went to New York, April 10. When it became apparent that death was approaching, Mr. Phillips sent for his fiancee and the marriage ceremony was performed. With the nurses, Mrs. Phillips remained at her husband’s side until the end.
Mr. Phillips was one of the best known residents of Jamestown, lived formerly at Northfield, Minn. He went east when but 15 years of age, and was gifted with such business ability that he was of independent means as a cattle buyer and shipper before he had reached his majority.
Mr. Phillips came to Minneapolis in 1892 as a delegate to the national republican convention.
Mrs. Julia Forman, of Minneapolis, was a sister of the deceased.
