A HORRIBLE CRIME IN ALABAMA.

Details of a horrible crime from the neighborhood of Thornhill’s Mill, Elmore county. The facts are reported as follows: About two years ago widow Phillips moved from this side of the river to the Thornhill neighborhood, and two months ago married Martin Holt. On last Wednesday night Mrs. Holt gave birth to a child, and, after cutting its throat, threw the body in the creek, near the mill, where it was discovered Saturday evening by a negro boy who was out fishing. Esquire Nixon, empaneled a coroner’s jury, which held an investigation Sunday, and returned a verdict in accordance with the facts above stated. Nixon then had a preliminary examination, and committed Mrs. Holt to the county jail to await the action of the grand jury.
