WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — John Phillips, author and Bible study leader, died July 25 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was 83.
Born in the United Kingdom, Phillips served in the British Army in Palestine leading up to the time of the rebirth of the State of Israel in 1948. After World War II he moved to Canada, working for a bank while founding a small church.
Later, Phillips would work for Moody Bible Institute as a teacher and speaker on the Moody Radio Network. A graduate of Luther Rice Seminary, he would go on to author more than 50 books about the Bible, including a set of New Testament commentaries.
Phillips was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean, and sister, Grace. He is survived by his wife, Betty, four children, four step-children, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a brother, and a sister.
