CLYDE — William Hugh "Boots" Phillips 86, of Abilene, died Saturday at his home. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. H .B. Terry and Rev. David Cason officiating. Burial will follow in the Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Clyde.
Hugh was born June 5, 1919 in Eastland County to Will and Mary Sally (Cooper) Phillips. He attended School at Denton Valley and graduated from Clyde High School. He married Fern Penny December 11, 1949 in Baird. She preceded him in death August 17, 1999. He married Madie Jones Allen in Hodges April 23, 2005. He lived in Canada, the Philippines, and East Texas moving to Abilene in the late 1960s. He had owned convenience stores in Abilene and retired from as manager of Terry's Auto Parts. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Northern France and Central Europe during WWII. He was a sergeant and received four Bronze Stars and a Bronze Medal. He was past commander of VFW Post 2012 and a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife Madie of Abilene; Stepson-Doyle and wife Sharon Allen of Anson; Stepdaughter-Paula and husband Donald Ray Kelso of Waxahachie: Two Stepnephews- Dr. Ernest and wife Cindy Harmon of Kingman, Arizona and Tom and wife Shirley Harmon of Windom; Stepniece-Judy and husband Dale Underwood of Odessa; Sister-Florida Phillips of Abilene; six Grandchildren-Donna, Donald Gene, and Jeanna Kelso, Gary Doyle Allen, Jeanetta McKnight, and Terry Allen; five Great Grandchildren-Kristi Dawn Greene, Chanee' Allen, Aaron McKnight, Cody Leija, and Blane Allen; and one Great Great Grandchild-Cameron Greene.
Pallbearers will be Gary Allen, Terry Allen, Aaron McKnight, Cody Leija, Steve Hadorn and Donald R. Kelso.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey Funeral Home.
