Maude Hastings Phillips

Maude Hastings was born February 14, 1877 at Newton, Kan., but moved to Florence, Kan., as a small child. She was graduated from the Florence High School.

She was married to Carl Phillips, March 6, 1899, at Florence, and they moved to Lawrence, where they made their home until her death.

Dr. Phillips died November 30, 1940.

Mrs. Phillips was active in many things. She was chairman of the Quilt committee at the Presbyterian church for years, a member of the Eastern Star, and a past matron, past president of the Year Round club and a member of the Women’s Relief Corps.

She was ill only a short time and her passing was a great shock to her friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Phillips leaves two daughters, Mrs. Louise Petersen of Hyrum, Utah, Mrs. Hazel Simrock of Denver, Colo., also her father, J.W. Hastings, a sister, Mrs. Ora Scherer of Florence, Kan., and four grandchildren, Elaine, Carl, Ray and Jo Ann Petersen, Hyrum, Utah.
