Funeral for Jack Phillips, 81, of Alto, was at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church at Alto with the Rev. Don Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Alto City Cemetery under the direction of O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home in Alto.

Mr. Phillips died Sunday in a Corpus Christi nursing home after a lengthy illness.

He was born June 20, 1909, at Mount Enterprise and had lived for many years in Refugio, Longview and Portland before retiring from Exxon Pipeline Co. After moving to Alto, he was Justice of the Peace for seven and a half years. He was a member of the A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church in Alto. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Laura, and a grandson, Hal Bauer.

Survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline (Sally) Bauer of Corpus Christi; a sister, Marie Pirtle of Laneville; a brother, Bill Phillips of Trinity; five grandchildren, Mark Bauer, Staci Bauer, Karen Bauer, Kevin Bauer and Kristi Smith; and a great-grandson, Hayden Smith.

Pallbearers were Mark Bauer, Kevin Bauer, Paul Smith, Alton Hicks, Tom Ball and Bill Warner.
