Mrs. Laura Phillips
Services for Mrs. Laura Phillips, 74, Alto, were held at 4 p.m. Saturday in A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church in Alto with the Rev. James Knight officiating.

Burial was in Alto City Cemetery under direction of O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home in Alto.

Mrs. Phillips died Friday in a Tyler hospital.

She was born Oct. 9, 1911 in Sabine County and lived in Alto most of her life. She was secretary for Justice of the Peace Precinct 11 for several years and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star chapter 496.

She was a member of the Thursday Study Club, and a member and past president of Cherokee County Peace Officers Association, and a member of A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church in Alto and president of Wesleyan Service Guild and Downtown Bible Class.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Phillips, Alto; a daughter, Jacqueline Sue Bauer, Corpus Christi; three sisters, Glesnal Smith, Alto, Foris Renfro and Lera Perkins, both of Fort Worth; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mark Bauer, Kevin Bauer, Paul Smith, Alton Hicks, Doug Bradford, James Campbell, Tom Ball and Sam Chapman.

Family request that donations be made to American Cancer Society or A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church.
