Mrs. Mary J. Phillips
Mrs. Mary J. Phillips, widow of William Phillips, of 196 South Parsons avenue, Flushing, died yesterday in her 85th year. She was a daughter of William Layton of Wheatley Hills, one of the substantial men of Long Island over a century ago. The deceased resided in Flushing with her husband for over sixty years and their farm was located where Ingleside is now. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Dykes and Mrs. Julia P. Averill, and one son, William E. Phillips, former police commissioner of Brooklyn, who resides here.
