Funeral for Tom E. Phillips, 82, of Houston, formerly of the Rusk-Jacksonville area, was at 4 p.m. Monday in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randle Ford officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips died Sunday in a Houston hospital. He was born May 23, 1911, in Rusk and was a retired carpenter. He was a member of the Sunset Baptist Church, Jacksonville. Mr. Phillips was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and had lived in Houston the past three years.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby B. Phillips of Houston; a daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Ernest Fields of Houston; a granddaughter; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters, a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
