LINDEN, TX– Funeral services for Verdis James Phillips, 89, of Jefferson will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, November 17, 2011 in the Chapel of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home in Linden with Bro. Jerry McKeller and Rev. Jason Crump officiating. Interment is in Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home, Inc., in Linden. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Phillips was born in East Tempe, (Livingston) Texas, on February 8, 1922 to John Weaver Phillips and Ruby Virginia Sprayberry Phillips. He passed away at his home on Monday, November 14, 2011. He worked as a Heat and Frost Insulator Local #21 Dallas, Texas and served in the Army Air Corps as a Flight Engineer during WWII.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Deane Phillips of Jefferson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Shirley Phillips and Danny and Melba Phillips, all of Jefferson; three brothers, Marshall, Sidney and Marvin Phillips; three sisters, Lorene Meza, Marie Kinard, and Mildred Wood; also, four grandchildren, Deanna Greene, Lynn Fratangelo, Michael Phillips, and Melissa Watson; Nine great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Savannah Greene, Bailey, Nick,and Will Fratangelo, Asher and Ezra Phillips, Levi & Zoe Watson; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mary Jo Phillips.
