Phillips in Fairfield Co S C was created by antiqueart
I am totally lost here and new.
I can only trace to ancestors as far back as Winnsboro S C. about 1860.
My grandfather was James Thomas Phillips born 1890 and his dad
was John C Phillips born about 1860 and mother named Francis....i cannot go past that.
His son was Frederick F Phillips born Winnsboro S C 1917 and I am his son born
Birmingham Al. 1943. I have one sone born 1968.
I can find an old obituary of my grandad if it would help. I didnt know any of his brothers and sisters but there were a few of them all in S C and N C and none living.

I was asked to look into the DNA testing...willing to do that but dont
have a clue how to do it.

Can anyone help me here. I am on Ancestry.com but it cannot help me much
on this line of ancestors.

I am new here and lost as how to nagigate..
I want to know how to go back more in my ancestry line and not sure how the DBA testing can help do that....am willing to do a DNA test.
thanks
Tom Phillips

Hi, Tom:

Thanks for posting your questions here on the Phillips Forum. I'll do some searches tonight and see what I can find about your family. If you have locations for your grandparents, please email me with that information at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

DNA would certainly help you. We suggest a 37-marker y-DNA test which costs $149 ordered through the Phillips Project. The y-DNA tests the y chromosome which is passed down through the generations from male to male, father to son, and is virtually unchanged from many generations ago.

We can order the test for you and have the kit with complete instructions and invoice sent to your home. If you match someone in our project, then you have the advantage of their research. If you don't match anyone, you will certainly find a match in a short time.

Please let me know if you have any other information on your family and I will begin a search. I'm going to look at census records, so locations would help, along with names of children.

Thanks for your interest in our project. We look forward to hearing from you.

Hi, Tom,

If you are still interested in doing the DNA test, I just wanted to let you know that Family Tree DNA is currently holding a sale on some of its DNA tests. The 37 marker test, which is the gold standard, is being offered for $119, which is a $30 savings over the usual price of $149. Here is a link to the page where you can order the test: www.familytreedna.com/gro...p=Phillips. Hope you decide to go for it!

Sincerely,
