RICHARD K. PHILLIPS
Lifelong resident of Skagit County, Richard was born February 6, 1942, the son of Knox and Margaret Phillips. He died at his home in Conway on May 1, 2002.

A graduate of Mount Vernon High School with the class of 1960. Throughout his working career he held various jobs, starting at Boeing, returning to the family homestead to farm. While farming, he went to work for Cascade Frozen Foods. Upon Cascade Frozen Foods closing, Richard returned to long haul driving between California, Nevada, Idaho and Oregon. Driving was his favorite and he so loved watching the seasons change. Richard's last job was driving for Skagit Petroleum out of Sedro-Woolley.

In his career he was a member of the Machinist Union of Everett and then Teamsters Union. He had a great love of music playing baritone in the high school band, singing and playing English hand bells at Trinity Lutheran Church and for special occasions. Marriage encounter was also an important time in his life.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia, of Mount Vernon; his father, Knox S. Phillips of Mount Vernon; son, Eric Phillips (Beth) of Pullman; son, Carl Phillips (Tisha) of San Diego, CA; his mother-in-law, Margaret (Peg) Connelly and husband, Bill of Renton; brother-in-law, Grant Morris (Tye) of Seattle; sister, Carol Moyer (Pete) of Omak; uncle Roy Anderson (Mary) of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Austin, Tayler, and Annika Margaret. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Phillips on March 31, 2002; uncles, Earl, Lloyd, Robin "Bob" Anderson, cousin, Terry L. Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 So.18th, Mount Vernon, Sunday, May 5, 2002 at 3:00 PM.

Committal services will be held Monday, May 6, 2002 at 1:00 PM at the Mount Vernon Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Kern Funeral Home of Mount Vernon.
