Mrs. Oda Radar Phillips
Mrs. Oda Radar Phillips died Monday, Sept. 24 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Smith, in Staunton. Mrs. Phillips had been in failing health for some time.
She was born in Pocahontas County, W. Va. Aug. 8, 1879, and was the last survivor of her immediate family.
Mrs. Phillips was the widow of the late John W. Phillips, who succumbed in 1929. The couple resided at Headwaters from 1909 until Mr. Phillips' death and the deceased remained until 1943 when she moved to Staunton.
She is survived by 11 children: Mrs. H. L. (Lena) Kincaid, Headwaters; Mrs. Eula Ashby, Washington, D. C.; Mrs. Roy Bishop, McDowell; Mrs. Twila Hicklin, Mrs. Herman (Ruth) Pullin, Mrs. Leroy (Hester) Brown, Raymond Phillips, Mrs. Joe (Joanna) Smith, Mrs. Ralph (Mary Jane) Crummett and Wardell Phillips, all of Staunton; and Leo Phillips of Washington, D. C. She also leaves 36 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 26 from the Staunton Church of the Brethen, of which she was a member. The Rev. Clarence L. Bowman, assisted by the Rev. R. L. St. Clair, officiated. Burial was in Headwaters Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Leo Kincaid, Glen Bishop, William Hicklin, Russell J. Jenkins, Carl Pullin, Charles Kincaid.
Honorary were Dr. Eugene Noley, Jack Kinchloe, Carl Yeago, Homer Burns, Cecil Crummett, Taylor Reynolds, Stanley Mitchell, Charles McCray, Frank Eagle, Les Moran, Glen Wimer, E. K. Kirby, Ernest L. Grandchildren served as flower bearers.
