HOLD LAST RITES FOR DR. PHILLIPS
PIONEER RESIDENT HONORED AT FUNERAL SERVICES AT CLEARWATER
Clearwater, Sept. 4.-Funeral services for Dr. Theodore F. Phillips, 86, who died at his home on Oak avenue Tuesday night, after an illness of several weeks, were held at the residence at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
Dr. Phillips was born in Jessamine county, Ky., May 22, 1844. He married Mary S. Lewis of Clark county, Ky., on Oct. 5, 1865. Deceased was for a long time a druggist in Winchester, Ky., occupying one place of business for 40 years.
The first tourist home in Clearwater was built by Dr. Phillips in 1885, and he had been coming to this city as a winter resident longer than any other person. Dr. Phillips was a life-long member of the Methodist church and was at the time of his death a member of the Methodist choirs at both Clearwater and Winchester, Ky.
Organizations to which Dr. Phillips belonged included the old Muckeltonian club, a famous social organization of the Bluegrass section. He was the last surviving organizer of the Citizens' National Bank of Winchester and served continuously on its board of directors for 43 years.
Dr. Phillips is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Lewis Phillips, and three sons, Dr. Harry Phillips, Henry T. Phillips and James S. Phillips, and by a grandson, Theordore Phillips. James S. Phillips, the youngest son, accompanied the body of his father to Winchester, Ky., for burial.
Pallbearers at the funeral were: Dr. L. B. Dickerson, Eugene L. Pearce, George R. Smoyer, J. E. Nall, Shelby Shanklin and H. H. Constantine, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were: Dr. Harry Phillips, Henry Constantine, H. W. Bivins, Joe Aunspaugh, W. O. Head, Joe W. Reed, Dr. Bolander, Ed A. Haley, John R. Jeffords, Frank Delamater and D. O. Batchelor.
