John A. Phillips, 79, Claimed By Death

Graveside services were held Saturday morning for John Alexander Phillips, 79, who died May 2, 1973. He had been in poor health for some time.

The Rev. Oscar Green conducted the services which were held at the Pine Grove Cemetery.

A native of Putnam County, Mr. Phillips was the descendant of two pioneer Putnam area families. His parents were the late Ripley D. and Annie Reid Phillips.

He was a retired cotton buyer, dairyman and businessman. He attended the University of Kentucky, and was a graduate of Mercer University. He was a member of the Half Century Club, Rising Star Masonic Lodge No. 4 and a member of the First Methodist Church.

He was married to the former Miss Selena Swann of Louisiana. Mrs. Phillips died March 30 of this year.

He is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Margharetta P. Brake of Eatonton and Mrs. Elizabeth P. Carr of Malvers, Pa.; six grandchildren and one brother, Richard Phillips of Monticello, Georgia.

Pallbearers were his grandsons, James Carr, Steven Gregory, James Gregory, Barry Wilson and T. H. Rosseau and William Rosseau.

Vising Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
