PHILLIPS RITES HELD IN JASPER
Funeral services were held Sunday in Monticello for R. Paul Phillips, 59, brother of John A. Phillips of Eatonton.
The services were held at Monticello Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dean Crocker, pastor of the Monticello Baptist Church, was in charge of the service. Burial was in West View Cemetery in Monticello.
Mr. Phillips died Friday afternoon, November 5th, after suffering a heart attack while deer hunting near Monticello.
He retired from the Savannah District Corps of Engineers in July 1864 after thirty-five years service, and moved to Monticello last November. He was a member of the Hull Presbyterian Church in Savannah and was a Mason.
A native of Eatonton, Mr. Phillips attended local schools, was a graduate of Eatonton High School and attended Mercer University.
He is survived by his wife, the former Alda Mae Vickers; two children, Mrs. Bernie Mattox of Monticello and Robert Paul, Jr. of Savannah, four grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces; two brothers, John A. of Eatonton and Richard Phillips of Warner Robins.
Jordan Funeral Home of Monticello was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Vic Lance, J. O. Chandler, John Henry Hadaway, Ben Warren, Harold Greer and Haschal Peurifoy.
