John A. Phillips
John A. Phillips died in the Cape Cod hospital early Saturday morning, May 26. A sudden illness seized him on the Thursday before and was finally pronounced influenza and double pneumonia. His age was 48 years and 9 months.

He had lived in Barnstable about 20 years, had been engaged with William A. Jones, contractor, about 15 years, and was considered an unusually dependable and skillful worker. He was engaged in the United States transport service for some time during the Spanish American War. He is survived by his widow and five children, the oldest 12, the youngest 3 years; also by four brothers who live in Yarmouth and West Dennis.

The funeral services were held in the Barnstable Baptist church at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 28. The religious services were conducted by pastor, Rev. A. T. Ringold. The large numbers filling the church and the wealth of floral tributes attested the high esteem in which he was held. The funeral procession was said to be the largest seen in this village in recent years. The interment was in Cummaquid cemetery. The bereaved family has the sincere sympathy of a large number of friends.
