W. F. PHILLIPS KILLED AT AVERA
Avera, Ga., February 12 - Saturday night about nine o'clock, John Thompson, of Glascock County, shot and killed W. F. Phillips, of Avera, in the yard of Calvin Phillips, son of the deceased. According to the only witness present, Thompson shot Phillips without provocation.
Phillips was 67 years old and section foreman for the Georgia and Florida Railroad Company and had always been a respected and splendid citizen.
Phillips leaves a wife and several children, Calvin, Eddie and Albert Phillips and three daughters, Mrs. Minnie and Florence Thigpen and May Phillips. He was a brother-in-law of Cicero Daniel, section foreman for the Georgia and Florida Railroad at Hepzibah.

THOMPSON CONVICTED OF MANSLAUGHTER
Louisville, Georgia, May 17 - after a trial lasting all of Tuesday and half of today, John Thompson was convicted in superior court here today of voluntary manslaughter and given from five to ten years. Thompson shot and killed W. F. Phillips at Avera, sixteen miles north of here, in a general drunken row a few months ago.
Judge B. F. Baker and Phillips and Abbott represented the defendant and Solicitor W. F. Grey and Judge M. C. Barwick the state. A motion for a new trial will be made.
