Archerite's Relative Aged 107, Dead.
WEATHERFORD, Texas, Feb. 3.
Mrs. Amanda Jane Phillips died at her home Tuesday at Advance, just two hours after having passed her one hundred seventh birthday. The usual celebration was omitted because of her critical condition.
Funeral services and burial was at Poolville Wednesday afternoon. She is survived by two sons, Charlie and John Ray of Advance community.
Mrs. Phillips was born near Bowling Green, Ky. She moved to Missouri and there married Joseph Benjamin Ray. They came to Texas in 1879. After Ray's death in 1889 she was maried to Carroll Phillips. Ray was a soldier in the Confederate Army, while Phillips wore the blue.
She once was a neighbor in Missouri of the mother of Jesse and Frank James.
She did not attribute her longevity to any particular habits, saying she "managed to eat what was on the table and kept busy doing something."
Note: The deceased was the great aunt of J. Whit Gipson, of this city, with whom she visited during her 106th birthday celebration last year. Gipson said that at that time she was exceptionally agile for her age.
