John Phillips Dies Monday

John Henry Phillips, 75, a retired farmer who had lived in the Gafford Chapel community the last ten years, died early Monday afternoon in a Cooper Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Gafford Chapel Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bayless Evans officiating. Interment will be in the Gafford Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips was born Aug. 30, 1885, in Jacksboro, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam Phillips. The family moved to Hopkins County when Mr. Phillips was a small boy and settled in the Peerless Community.

Mr. Phillips married Rilla Hettich at Peerless in 1905. His wife is a survivor.

Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Delma Ragan of Cooper and Miss Dorothy Phillips of Gafford Chapel; three sons, Estus Phillips and John Phillips, Jr., both of Gafford Chapel, and Deryl Phillips of Humble, Tex.; and one brother, Virgle Phillips of Childress; and four grandchildren.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The body will remain at Day & Day Funeral Home, which has charge of the arrangements, until time for the service.
