Add'l info found; entire obituary as follows:

DIED.

Departed this life of consumption on the 16th of October, at his father's residence near Hillsboro, JOHN R. PHILIPS, the youngest son of William and Susan Philips, of Jasper county, Ga., aged 21 years, 2 months and 23 days.

It is seldom that any one has suffered more, for the length of time, than the subject of this notice. He became afflicted about 18 months ago, but was not confined to his bed until about a month before his death. He bore his afflictions with Christian fortitude, never was heard to murmur in the least. He was a young man of steady habits; as a friend and brother he was alike distinguished by the warmest feelings of kindness and affection. He has left an aged father and mother, and his brothers and sisters, to mourn his loss. But this is the consolation, that their loss is his eternal gain. He was not a member of any church, but during his afflictions he obtained a hope in Jesus, which lightened and sweetened his afflictions, and lighted up the valley and shadow of death, and finally was his passport into the climes of glory. The last word he uttered, were, I am going to heaven. He closed his eyes in death and fell asleep in the arms of Jesus. We are assured that the sickness which deprived us of our beloved brother is not unto death, but for the Glory of God-that believers, when absent from the body, are present with the Lord-that when commiting their remains to the dust, we are sowing the seeds of a glorious harvest, and that our sorrow shall ere long be turned into joy. May this solemn call from God be sanctified to all his relatives and friends.
We wish him back again,
But say, dear brother, with God remain;
We'll try to gain that peaceful shore,
Where those who meet shall part no more.
-A BROTHER.
