Came To Athens and Bought a Coffin for Uncle He Had Slain.
John Morris, a well-known citizen of Madison county, came to Athens yesterday to purchase a coffin for the burial of his uncle, Obe Phillips, also a well-known citizen of that county, and while selecting the coffin, incidentally dropped the information that he had caused the death of the relative.
Morris and Phillips engaged in a pistol duel near their home Sunday afternoon, Phillips, who was intoxicated, it is said, firing upon his nephew. Morris returned the fire and killed his uncle. The coroner's jury declared that the act was in self defense and exonerated the younger man.
