ARDIS PHILLIPS died at her home in La Grange, Texas, at the age of 93, having been born to James A. and Katherine Ardis Phillips on July 25, 1906 in Greenville, Texas.
After receiving her degrees from the University of Texas, she came to Houston to teach Journalism at the University of Houston. She later spent many years as counselor in the Houston high schools. She gave much of her time volunteering in different organizations and was a member of the Methodist Church, the Honorary Society of Journalism, the Garden Club, and the Friday Club. She was an avid bridge player.
She is survived by one sister, Katherine Dobbs Stough of La Grange; her favorite niece, Katherine Dobbs Pearce of Kerrville and her great nephew, Lt. Guy Pearce of Mobile, Alabama and great niece, Katherine Ardis Pearce of Tampa Bay, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Josephine Phillips Oxehufwud.
Funeral Services will be held in the Methodist Church in La Grange at 4 p.m. on October 11th, 1999, with interment in Greenville, Texas the following day at 3:30 p.m.
