PHILLIPS-Houston, Tex., Nov. 30.-B.L. Phillips died at 5 p.m. at his residence, corner of Capital and Fannin streets. Deceased was a gallant confederate soldier and a native of Montgomery, Tenn. He was a captain in the Fourteenth Tennessee regiment, and at the battle of Gettysburg, where he was badly wounded, was promoted to a colonelcy. He came to Texas in 1876 and settled in Brazoria county. He served two terms as tax assessor and one as county clerk. He was 58 years old and leaves a wife and two children.
