BERKELEY, Calif.- Evelyn Cook Gray, 90, of Berkeley, Calif. and formerly of Pittsburg, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, in Berkeley.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Centerpoint Baptist Church in Pittsburg with the Rev. Buford Jones Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Centerpoint Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be her nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Mills, Sylvester Mills, Jerold Moore Sr., Donald Mills, Timothy Moore, Rudolph Richard and Karl Richardson.
Mrs. Gray was born on June 19, 1917, in Pittsburg, the daughter of Bill T. and Maudie Cook. She was a member of Downs Memorial Church and president of the United Methodist Women of Downs; president of Beautiful Women; and a member of Life Bible Study Class, while she lived in Berkeley. Her travels included Israel and the Holy Land, Greece, Hawaii and Texas.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Toy Phillips of Southern California, and three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Annie Mae Williams of San Diego, Calif., Frankie Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif., Verna Hickman of Oakland, Calif., and Sarah Trimble of Fort Worth; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shedrick Gray; a son, Bill Phillips; granddaughter, Donna Phillips; and grandson, Maurice Phillips; and her parents.
