Memorial services for Debbie Phillips, 59, of Kilgore will be 2 pm Friday, July 1 at the First Baptist Church of Kilgore with Reverend David Hampton officiating. There will be a private burial prior to the memorial service in Bullard Cemetery.

Mrs. Phillips passed peacefully on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Debbie was born Dec. 20, 1952 in Tyler to Chester and Lavenia Yancy. She was a 1971 graduate of John Tyler High School, where she was Twirl Major of the Blue Brigade. Debbie married Glenn D. Phillips three days after her high school graduation on May 29, 1971. Together they attended Tyler Junior College while Debbie worked for Stephen F. Austin State University as well as Tyler State College. Debbie earned her court reporting certificate at Alvin Community College. She and Glenn moved to Kilgore in 1983. Debbie served many years on the PTA and was a trustee on the school board from 1995 to 2007. Debbie was a member of the Xi Pi Mu of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, as well as KIBA and Kilgore Garden Club.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Judge Glenn D. Phillips of Kilgore; a son, Cheston Glenn Phillips of Kilgore; two daughters, Donna Ann and husband Josiah Wood of Plano and Lana Dee Phillips of Dallas; parents, Chester and Lavenia Yancy of New Chapel Hill; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pam and Ron Horton of Ben Wheeler and Cathy and Donny Davis of Canton; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Thursday evening between 6-7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made through Dr. Arlene Siefker-Radtke at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for bladder cancer research.
