Funeral for Corry Ray (C.R.) Phillips, 72, of Rusk was at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11 in the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Don Copeland and the Rev. Jack White officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Phillips died Dec. 8.
He was born Aug. 24, 1936, in Maydelle, to the late Corry Newton and Altha Mae Langston Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a lifelong resident of Rusk and a member of Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Phillips retired from Rusk State Hospital and Texas Department of Criminal Justice after 33 years of service as a captain. He was a Jacksonville police officer and worked for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. He was also a Reserve Officer, retired rancher and a cowboy.
Survivors are his wife of 33 years, Debbie Phillips of Rusk; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Susie Phillips of Rusk; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and Randy Maxwell of Henderson and Rae and Daniel Waller of New Summerfield; sister and brother-in-law, Lela Mae and Curtis Mainer of Rusk; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Theta and Frank Burns of New Summerfield; brothers-in-law, Danny Garrett of New Summerfield; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers were Ernest Hudnall, Harold Hudnall, Gerald Choate, Kenneth Bowden, Joey Burns, Billy Lovelady, Steven Lovelady and Robbie Parsons. Honorary pallbearers were all Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church men, Frank Burns, Davey Buckner, Danny Garrett, Jimmy Graham and Billy Lankford Sr.
