Gerald "Gerry" Phillips, age 69 of Rowlett, TX, passed away December 2, 2008. He was born June 15, 1939, in Exeter, England.
Gerry grew up on a farm in Otsego, Ohio. He served in the Air Force 8 years, four at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, NV, where he remained for 44 years. He met his wife on a blind date in California and they shared 44 wonderful years together. Gerry started with IBM in 1967, winning multiple awards and being chosen to attend symposiums around the nation. He was involved in the Payback Program, helping mentor students in the realities and opportunities of life. He loved his work and retired in 1993. Gerry was a licensed commercial pilot, member of AOPA and EAA, and he helped build two airplanes for the Reno Air Races. He had a green thumb and a passion for growing fruit trees, flowers and vegetables. Gerry also enjoyed woodworking and airplanes. His first love was his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Gerry is survived by his wife: Carole Phillips; son: Doug Phillips and wife Monica; grandchildren: Dustin Winston and Jordan Phillips; son-in-law: Stoney Winston; 7 sisters and 2 brothers.
He was preceded in death by daughter Andrea Winston, mother and stepfather.
Memorial services will be held 2:00pm Friday, December 5, 2008, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rowlett Chapel with Rev. Clay Womack officiating.
