The comments in parenthesis after the marriage records are speculative.

6 March 1809 Temperance Phillips married George Allen. (George Allen was supposedly born about 1791 in KY (?) and died 1815 in Mobile, AL. His putative parents were William and Mary Phillips Allen. His mother Mary was supposedly the daughter of Joel and Elizabeth Harrington Phillips of NC which is Phillips Family DNA Group 8. Temperance was supposedly born about 1792 in Morgan Co GA and died about 1819 in Morgan Co GA. Her putative parents were Whitmell and his first wife Nancy Hurley Phillips. This Temperance Phillips has been confused with the Tempy Phillips who married Charles Arrington in 1810, but Whitmell Phillips served as security on the marriage bond for Temperance Phillips and George Allen, indicating that he was probably the father of that Temperance. Also, Temperance and George named a son Whitmell. Whitmell Sr. was the son of Joel and Elizabeth Harrington Phillips of NC. This means that Temperance and George were first cousins. The children of Temperance and George included Whitmell Phillips Allen and Elizabeth Allen.)

5 January 1810 Matthew Phillips married Polly/Polley Evans. Thomas Hogg, J.P. (There is a Matthew Phillips on the 1820 census in Morgan County age 26-45. Family researcher Lucile Floyd Pierson thought this Matthew Phillips was the son of David Phillips who died in Wilkes Co GA in 1819, but his son Matthew was born in about 1796. It seems unlikely that Matthew would have married when he was only 14 years old. On the 1850 Chambers Co Al census, Matthew is 54 years old with a wife named Eliza, and some sources say he married Eliza Brown 15 Aug 1829 in Jasper County GA. This is more believeable.)

29 March 1810 Tempy Phillips married Charles Arrington Daniel H. Zachay, J.P. (Also spelled Harrington. Charles was supposedly born 1778 in VA. Elizabeth, the wife of Joel Phillips of Phillips Family DNA Group 8, may have been a Harrington. Tempy may have been the daughter or granddaughter of Joel and Elizabeth Phillips. She has frequently been confused with Temperance Phillips who married George Allen in 1809. According to www.crosswinds.net/~marle...llips.html, Tempy Phillips was the daughter of Joel and Charity Brantley Phillips. Charles and Tempy supposedly had children named Lewis, Susan, John, Francis, Grady, Temperance, Charles and Nancy, who all appear to have been born in the 1820s and 1830s.)

4 September 1810 William Phillips married Margaret Patrick. (According to Ann Nollsch’s rootsweb file, they had a daughter named Jane Holmes Phillips born 13 Apr 1814.)

21 April 1811 Polly Phillips married Reuben Saffold. (Married on the 21st inst. Reuben Saffold, Esq., of Randolph, to Miss Mary Phillips, daughter of Col. Joseph Phillips, of Morgan county. Source: The Georgia Journal, Milledgeville, Georgia, Wednesday, May 1, 1811; Pg. 3. According to Andrew Bols rootsweb file, Reuben was born 4 Sept 1788 in Wilkes Co GA and died 1847 in Dallas Co AL. Polly’s name was actually Mary Evelyn Phillips and her parents were Joseph and Jane Walker Phillips of Phillips Family DNA Group 8. Reuben and Polly had a daughter named Jane Elizabeth Saffold born 1818 in Dallas Co AL.)

26 December 1814 Thomas Phillips married Sally/Salley Adkins. (Was this Thomas Phillips the son of Thomas and Milly Davis Phillips of Phillips Family DNA Group 8?)

1 May 1815 Robert Phillip/Phillips married Polley/Polly Beck. (Robert Phillips age 26-45 appears on the 1820 census in Morgan County. He is next to William Philips age 26-45. A descendant of Robert Phillips and Polly Beck has been DNA tested and he belongs to Phillips Family DNA Group 22.)

12 October 1815 Fanny Phillips married Thomas Roberts. Sam’l Hathorn, J.P.

21 January 1816 Elizabeth Phillips/Philips married Robert Crawley. Sam’l Hathorn, J.P. (According to various rootsweb files, Robert was born ca 1780-1795. His parents were Charles Crawley and Elinor Hughes who were married 16 Dec 1790 in Campbell Co, VA. Robert and Elizabeth Crawley supposedly had daughters Martha P. born 6 Dec 1816 in Morgan Co GA and Margaret Caroline born 9 Sep 1838.

1 June 1816 Polly Phillips married James Pate.

20 June 1816 Frances/Francis Phillips/Philips married Samuel S. Simmons. (This is definitely the daughter of Thomas and Milly Davis Phillips of Phillips Family DNA Group 8. Samuel Simmons was given a legacy on behalf of his wife from the estate of Jonathan Davis in 1817. Jonathan Davis was Milly’s father. Samuel was described in the Quota of the 19th Regiment, Col. Wootens, War of 1812, as 37 years old, dark complexion, grey eyes.)

10 October 1816 Whitmell Phillips married Polly Rogers. E. Duks, J.P. (Whitmell was a son of Joel and Elizabeth Phillips of Phillips Family DNA Group 8. Whitmell was born ca. 1775. He was mentioned in his mother’s will. Polly Rogers was supposedly his second wife. Whitmell appears on the 1820 census in Morgan County age 45+ with 10 children and a wife age 16-26.)

12 December 1816 James Phillips married Delphi/Delphie/Dephi Henderson. (James Phillips age 16-26 appears on the 1820 census in Morgan County GA. According to several rootsweb files, James Phillips was the son of Joel and Charity Brantley Phillips, born about 1800 in Morgan County, GA. Joel was the putative son of Joel and Elizabeth Harrington Phillips of Phillips Family DNA Group 8. Joel and Charity supposedly had children named James, Charity Matilda, Joel White, Hiram, Mary Brantley and Hawkins Phillips. James and Delphi supposedly named children Mary Ann, Zachariah, Augustus and Americus.)

12 February 1817 Sinthy/Simthy Phillips married Matthew Hester. (Several rootsweb files indicate that Whitmell and Nancy Hurley Phillips had a daughter named Cintha/Sinthy who would be the right age to be this Sinthy Phillips. However, family researcher Lucile Floyd Pierson thought Sinthy was the daughter of Benjamin Phillips.)

8 Dec 1818 Joseph Duke married Margaret Lewis. (According to the rootsweb file of Michael Ritter, Joseph T.M. Duke was born about 1793 in GA and died before 26 Feb 1849 in Yalobusha Co MS. According to the rootsweb file of Christine Dolan-Fulgham, Joseph Duke was born 28 Nov 1790 in Warren Co, NC and died in Henry Co GA. Joseph Duke was given a legacy on behalf of his wife from the estate of Jonathan Davis in 1817. Was Margaret Lewis somehow related to Jonathan Davis or was Margaret possibly the second wife of Joseph Duke?)

6 January 1820 Elijah Phillips married Rebecca Phillips. (This Elijah Phillips was the putative son of James and Martha Parnell Phillips who moved from Darlington Co SC to GA sometime after the birth of their last son in 1804. Family researcher Anne Westbrook says the will of James R. Phillips which was probated in Newton Co GA in 1834 lists the following children in the following order: Trustin, Joel, John, Mary, Daniel, Sarah, Solomon, Elijah, James, Abigail and Priscilla.)

16 March 1820 Jesse Phillips married Elizabeth Johnson. (This is possibly the son of Thomas and Milly Davis Phillips of Phillips Family DNA Group 8, but there is other evidence Jesse married Anna Thurmond. Jesse was given a legacy from the estate of Jonathan Davis in June of 1817. He was described as the son of Milly Philips in the account of the distribution.)

13 July 1826 Clayton S. Woodley married Mary Phillips (Mary was supposedly the daughter of Thomas and Milly Davis Phillips of Phillips Family DNA Group 8, but on the 1830 Morgan County GA census, the head of household under the name Clayton Woodley is 40-50 years old, and the oldest female in the house is also 40-50. However, there are a female 15-20 and a male 20-30 in this same household, as well as one male and one female under the age of 5. Perhaps the male age 20-30 is Clayton Woodley Jr?)

12 Dec 1826 Sarah Phillips married Robert Sanders. (Sarah was probably the daughter of Thomas and Milly Davis Phillips of Phillips Family DNA Group 8. Thomas Phillips gave a power of attorney to Samuel Simmons to represent his daughters in the distribution of the estate of their grandfather, Jonathan Davis, in 1817. The daughters of Thomas Phillips named in the POA were Elisabeth Phillips, Nancy Phillips, Mildred Phillips, Mary Phillips and Sarah Phillips. Robert and Sarah Phillips Sanders had children named James Alford, Joseph B, John Thomas, Jane K, Jesse R and Jefferson Harris.)

16 Oct 1830 William D Phillips married Martha A Ozman
