Hi,
I have just subscribed to the Phillips DNA site so I hope I am not stepping out of line making general genealogical enquires about my Phillips family, rather tha DNA enquiries.
My name is Peter Phillips and I live in Melbourne Australia. My ancestors came to Australia around 1868 and originally settled in Adelaide, South Australia. My Phillips family come from Pembroke in Wales.
I have been able to track my family back to James Phillips of Hubberston, Pembroke, Wales. He was serving as a mate on the ship the MS Syren owned by C & S Enderby when he was drowned in 1817 on a voyage in the South Seas Fishing Trade. Fortunately all this is documented in great detail by his widow Diana when she applied to Trinity House London for a pension following his death. They were married at St David's Church Hubberston on 16/6/1811 and had two children Robert Morris b 1812 and William b 1816. I am a descendant of Robert Morris.
I am trying to find the ancestors of James Phillips as I have been unable to find any baptism records for him. I am guessing he would have been born about 1788 plus or minus about years, given he was a mate in 1816 and Diana was born in 1788.
Does anybody have any knowledge of my Phillips family from this part of Wales? Unfortunately it is a very very common name in South Wales!
Kind Regards
Peter Phillips

Hi, Peter,
You are definitely not stepping out of line making general genealogy inquiries. Unfortunately, I don't have any information on your line of Phillips but we would love to see you get your DNA tested. We know that Phillips is a very common surname in South Wales and we are trying hard to recruit more Phillips men from Wales. If you are interested in getting tested, I believe I could arrange a free test kit for you.
Sincerely,
Nancy Kiser

Hi Nancy,
Thankyou very much for the offer of the DNA test. I would be very pleased to have the test carried out.
It may well get over the current road block!
Please advise what I need to do to have the the DNA test done.
Regards
Peter
