Hello, I'm new to this but I'm looking for anyone who may have heard of Owen Arthur Phillips. He was born in September of 1895 in TN I think. He was my maternal grandfather but he died in 1937 (in Denison TX) when my mother was 4 yrs old. All we really know is that he did have siblings. He had a brother in Sherman TX and a sister in New Orleans. There is a story of a sister who went to New York to become a ballerina. He was apparantly somewhat 'disowned' from the family but we don't know why. The only picture we had was of him and a woman who was not my grandmother. They were well dressed in the picture. I'm told he was stout, red headed, blue eyed. When he was married to my Grandmother in approximately 1930, he was a hard working manual laborer which doesn't really fit the picture of the man in the suit although I'm told he did have the gentleman manners. He was one of the first people diagnosed with Leukemia. We believe his was an enviromental strain as he did work in the White Sands area for some time.
My grandmother wasn't one to talk about unpleasant things or things 'private' so all we have are stories and very few facts. My mother is 77 this year. I'd love to be able to find out something for her. She only remembers that she loved him very much and he loved her.
Thank you,
Wendy

Hi Wendy
My name is Tom Hutchison and I am one of the co-administrators of the Phillips DNA Project. I will take a look and see if I can dig up some information on Owen Phillips.

It would be a big help if you knew the brother's and sister's first names. I found an Owen M Phillips b. 1895 in TN, but he lived into the later 1900's. Grayson Co, TX had few Phillips in 1930, lots in 1920. I need to check, but maybe the county line moved a bit. I don't know. There was an Owen A Phillips, b. in Iowa in 1893. I need an anchor, your grandmother's name, maiden would help too. Was she from Grayson Co., TX or TN?
Thanks
Tom
