John Houston Phillips, We don't have any information on him before the Civil War. He was a Sgt Mj Company G, 3rd Regiment Tennessee. He was sick in quarters during the Battle of Fort Donelson, where he became a POW and was was released in 1863. He went on to have two children, mother unknown, before he married Mary Elizabeth McMahan (b Jul 1854 TN, d Jul 1924 Clifton, AZ) in Texas Jul 1873. They had 11 children together. Their son George recalled times of their family moves between Texas and Oklahoma, and later Oklahoma and New Mexico, when they walked along the stage coach the entire journey. This family was a pioneer family of southeastern Arizona. John Houston Phillips was said to be 101 years of age when he died. His secret to his long life was walking everywhere he went.
