FINE DIAMOND RINGS STOLEN IN DUBLIN.
Dublin, Ga., March 29.-A diamond theft that has been worrying the police here for three days took a new turn late Saturday night when two diamond rings were found on the porch of M.A. Kendrick’s home wrapped in a note asking that they be returned to the owner, Mrs. W.S. Phillips from whom they were stolen.
They were found by Hyrell Kendrick, son of M.A. Kendrick.
Three diamond rings valued at four thousand dollars were stolen from Mrs. Phillips and her daughter, Mrs. Blue Holleman, very prominent here socially. The rings were taken by someone who knew where to find the keys unlocking the trunk where they were kept. Both ladies were away from home all day and when they returned found the rings gone. Their negro cook and several more negro cooks in the neighborhood are now in jail all charged with knowing something about the theft and there is a general shortage of cooks in the residence section because of the arrests made.
The return of the rings was made after the second batch of negroes was placed in jail Saturday. It is thought that the guilty negro is among those in jail and the police are endeavoring to ascertain which one, also where the other ring is. Those found by Hydrell Kendrick were returned to Mrs. Phillips but a third one, Mrs. Holleman’s engagement ring is yet missing. More arrests are expected.
