Scottish scientists at Edinburgh University have used volunteers from small communities in Scotland, Italy and Croatia to test their DNA and locate exactly where their distant relatives lived, in some cases with 100% accuracy. Within five years they believe the technique could be developed sufficiently so that any person could pinpoint the geographical origins of his ancestors through DNA analysis.
